kew Gardens + Millenium seed bank Wakehurst

OVERVIEW

Kew Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Wakehurst is home to the Millenium Seed Bank. Rockbrook were tasked with design, installation and commissioning of all audio visual systems as well as the production of all media and interactive content.

LOCATION

Kew, Richmond, London, TW9 3AE, United Kingdom

PROJECT DETAILS

Located on the site of the Royal Botanic Gardens, home to over 40,000 species of plants and the Millennium seed bank is an underground collection of over 2.4 billion seeds from around the world, stored for the future in radiation proof, bomb proof underground vaults.

Our team in conjunction with the client developed interactive exhibits while using as much of the existing client owned equipment as we could to ensure we made the most of the available budget for the development of interactive content. A theme of learning very much drives the way interactives were presented with an educational values to the fore.

Rockbrook developed the software interactive through game engines. Explore in one instance how pests have a critical part to play in a balanced ecosystem. Learn how eradication of some can lead to disastrous consequences for both plant life and the protection of trees. Other interactives explored the variety of diseases trees can succumb too. A third interactive examined plant DNA. A DNA sequence was printed on a glass panel which encouraged visitors to use their fingers to zoom in. An integrated display showed the zoomed in DNA sequence as the visitor explored the glass printed graphic.
